I do not recall ever seeing a metal skinned door with timber glazing beads. Then again though, I have only worked in a handful of houses with metal composite doors. If it is timber, you can pretty much use any exterior wood/metal paint. I have never used the Zinsser paint that you linked to.
Yes we've painted ours, it's white and we used some Dulux exterior paint for wood and metal. It is a bit tricky to get a smooth finish but if you brush in the same direction then any brush lines could also look like wood grain. If you want a colour other than white, you could use an oil based paint with an undercoat.
